Stewardship 2025

St John’s, Richmond – Stewardship Campaign 2025

In this campaign we want to reach out directly to address the future of our parish. In 2022 we marked our 200th anniversary of ministering in the Diocese of Ottawa, where we are the oldest parish.

In these changing times, fewer people attend traditional Sunday morning services. Nonetheless, we have worked hard to expand outreach ministries in our communities.
We have established a monthly Food Bank Sunday to increase support for the Richmond Food Bank on a regular basis. As we well know, in these difficult times more and more of our neighbours are forced to access community food banks for their basic family needs.

We established a community discretionary outreach fund through generous donorship to address short-term needs.

We proudly celebrate the many exciting opportunities available at St. John’s including

  • Monthly Messy Church children’s ministry and Summer Camp,

  • Sunday Vespers with Harp and Flute,

  • Gingerbread House Making Party,

  • Open Table dinners and  occasional “Souper” Sundays,

  • Pastoral care,

  • Vibrant in-person and online Sunday services,

  • Parish breakfasts,

  • and the Quiet Garden.

We happily have recently welcomed several new families to our parish. Good things are happening at St. John’s.

These activities and ministries have strengthened our parish and extended our commitment to offer Christian service and hospitality to all those in need. The sad fact however is that these efforts may be jeopardized by the financial challenges which confront our parish. That is why we need your support, to help our parish establish long-term financial sustainability and continue to thrive.

While a generous donation early this year has helped, our monthly revenues remain less than what we require. If this shortfall is not addressed, the many ministries, worship services, and social events that give vitality and spiritual depth to our parish may be significantly restricted.

As such. we are challenged to develop sustainable means to fill the ongoing gap in our operational funding. If individuals and families like yours could commit to a weekly contribution of only $20, we would be back on track for long-term financial stability.

We do however recognize that we live in tough economic times, so any level of sustained contribution is welcomed. All contributions will go to directly support our basic operating costs and ministries so that St. John’s can continue our Christian ministry to our community.

We also invite parishioners and friends to consider a legacy donation to St. John’s when planning their estate.

As always, we enthusiastically welcome additional active participation in the life of our parish. Our ongoing program of social events, to which all are welcome, offers a depth of fellowship and friendship that goes beyond simple participation in the parish itself.

Reverend Allan and I hope that you may have a conversation  by email or by telephone (613-314-2940) over the coming weeks so that we can further explore together the future of our parish. We welcome your suggestions for how we can strengthen our shared ministry.

Please consider this at your convenience. I very much look forward to hearing from you.

Yours in Christ,
St. John’s Stewardship Committee
